Business is personal

In-House Design, established in 1992, provides consulting services on new projects and renovations – both large and small-scale – for health care.  We do architectural finish specifications and colour schemes, as well as furniture, furnishings, and equipment (FF&E) work.  Our services include programming and planning, feasibility studies, budgeting, concept design, design development and contract documentation plans, details, finishes, and specifications.

We offer a hands-on, personal approach to our clients and often get involved in the project from initial contact and information-gathering to hanging the last piece of art on the wall.

Our clients include:

·         Facilities planning groups for Health Regions and Authorities

·         Architectural firms for whom we provide services or with whom we partner

·         Owners/Operators of both private for profit and non-profit care facilities

Mary Chernoff

RID EDAC

Interior Designer/Principal

After studying languages at SFU, Mary worked in the advertising industry through her 20s. In her 30s she returned to design school and established In-House Design Services in 1992. Mary has specialized in health care design for over 30 years, balancing acute care hospital projects with the spectrum of Independent, Assisted, Complex and Dementia Care facilities design.

She has witnessed and participated in the great change and improvement in elder care facilities over the last few decades and designed one of the first cottage models in British Columbia, Hawthorne Dementia Care Cottages, 10 years ago.  She is equally proud of a few of her other long-term care projects: The Residences at Clayton Heights, a 139-bed residential care facility in Cloverdale, BC, and the 150 bed Whistle Bend Care Facility in Whitehorse, YT.

She has consulted on numerous P3 and design-build projects from both the design team side and the client/compliance side.  She is well versed in facilitating the user consultation process and takes an avid interest in weaving together the various streams of signage, art, furniture, and donor recognition that bring a large project to a cohesive completion.

She has worked on numerous projects in all areas of acute care and provides solid expertise on finish materials and applications as well as furnishings.  Working on large hospital projects creates opportunities to also design the complementary retail, administrative, public health, conference, and worship spaces within those campuses.

Mary is also the author of the award-winning book INSPIRE, about artful living and creative resourcefulness. She is active on social media blogging about her garden, home projects and another favourite hobby: reading.
